What is Visible Mending? +5 Simple Techniques

"One of the most sustainable things you can do is just use what you have. That pertains to clothing items too: Simply shopping your closet first can make a big impact.

Visible mending can be anything from sewing a patch on your jeans to embroidering a flower over a tear on your shirt. Aka, mending you can see.

By practicing visible mending, you’ll keep the clothes you already own around you longer, which reduces waste. It’s a great way to add some individuality to a piece, or spruce up a thrift find that might need some extra love.

Here’s everything you need to know about visible mending and how to do it yourself."

13 Sustainable Alcohol Brands to Try at Your Next Party

"Everything that is produced, transported, and sold has some kind of impact on the planet. Be it haircare, the meal on your plate, or even your alcohol – it all has an impact on our planet’s finite resources.

The biggest impact for alcohol comes from the production process itself: It takes large amounts of water and fertilizer to grow and harvest the grain, grapes, rice, potatoes, and botanicals used in alcohol. Plus, the harvesting and processing of these ingredients uses up resources.

Here are the best eco-friendly and sustainable alcohol brands on the market. If you like to host parties, or indulge in the occasional cocktail, there’s something for everyone on this list."

Best Plastic-Free/Zero Waste Documentaries

In my opinion, these two films below are the BEST documentaries on going plastic-free/zero waste in regard to the everyday person making changes in their personal life. For me, it was very relatable for my life and very inspiring!

For decades being vegan, I was focused on the animals and the people, as many other vegans do. But a month ago, I "saw the light!", realizing that I'm not actively doing much for the environment...Then began my volunteer trash pickup, plastic-free, zero waste journey....

What surprises me is living in the West Coast, I've talked to and observed many Gen Xers, Millennials and younger who couldn't care less about recycling, much less being active in at least ditching single-use plastic. They are the future, but they don't care!

Veganism is about caring for animals, people and planet, and caring about planet itself (going plastic free, zero-waste) is about non-harming animals--and us people.

I thought it would be overwhelming as I looked in my home with my eyes open to all the plastic--especially in the kitchen. But as time goes, I have almost daily purged plastic from my home, replacing plastic items with awesome alternatives, and getting a HUGE amount of education from this all!

This journey is wonderful, educational, an adventure!, fun, serious as I come to find these phenomenal plastic-free items from small businesses. I'm cooking/baking more, going to bulk bins more. It's quite an experience! My home smells better, fresher, no clutter with less plastic.

What a life changing, beautiful journey...
